Well Earned Points For All Teams This Week!

Our Ladies 1st XI had a tricky game this week, at home to 3rd place Wrye Forest 1st XI. With the reverse fixture ending in a 3-1 victory for COB this one could go either way, but was going to be a hard fought game. It turned out to be with the sides proving very equal, both having few chances and a lot of battles in the middle of the park. A COB goal came from J. Lee, possibly an own goal but another great goal from J. Lee who is on great form and has scored many of the Ladies 1st XI this season. Wrye Forest did get one back, ending the game at 1-1. A fair earned point for our Ladies 1st XI who now sit 5th in the league.

Our Mens 1st XI had another huge game this weekend against bottom of the league Edgbaston 3rd XI away from home, with every point mattering towards the end of this tough season. It was a sunny away day and COB knew what they had to do, despite only having the bare 11 players they started the game well. The determination paid off leading to A. Makepeace scored a screamer of a goal from a short corner, putting COB 1-0 up! The chances kept coming and soon fell to J. Chagger that shot home for another giving our Mens 1st XI a comfortable 2-0 lead. This wasn't enough though, as a pass from J. Chagger fell to Junaid. A who got COB their 3rd, ending the tie. Another great victory, pushing our Mens 1st XI away from the danger zone and into 9th in the league.

Our Mens 2nd XI had a earlier that usual start away to Beacon 6th XI this week! With 4th place secured this was a chance to keep the pressure up on third place in the league. COB started the game without a keeper due to unforeseen delays so would play the first 10 minutes with 11 outfield. This did not prove an issue as a confident COB kept Beacon at bay for the first 10, with them barely getting into the COB final third. Once our keeper arrived COB piled on the pressure leading to many short corners, one falling to R. Stanley who fired one in!

A second half goal came from a good set of passing, leading to R. Stanley putting a cross in to James who fired home from the top of the D. A final third came from an attack down the right and B.Matthews shooting on the move that took a deflection and went in. Ultimately a great controlled, confident game to go just one point behind 3rd.
